Mac Users Guide Photo Contest Rules
Mac Users Guide invites photographers, both amateur and professional to enter its 1st Annual Show Me Your Mac Photo Contest. Please read the following rules, terms and conditions before submitting any photos!
The Mac Users Guide 1st Annual Show Me Your Mac Photo Contest (the “Contest”) is open to ALL photographers at least 18 years of age, except employees and affiliates of Mac Users Guide and the immediate families of such parties. The contest is open to all participants regardless of residence or citizenship, so long as the laws of their jurisdiction allow participation.
You will retain all rights to any photograph you submit — including ownership if applicable — other than those rights licensed in the next sentence. By entering the contest, you hereby grant to Mac Users Guide (i) a nonexclusive, worldwide, irrevocable, royalty-free license to reproduce, distribute, publicly display and publicly perform the photographs you submit to Mac Users Guide, and (ii) the right to use your name, city, state and country of residence in promotions and other publications.
WHAT TO ENTER
We are looking for striking digital images that capture why you love your Mac . These images can be taken anywhere in the world. Photos that focus on the scenery or background of where your Mac is located should indicate some connection to or indication of why you love your Mac.
We’re looking for well-photographed and composed images of your current or past Macintosh. Your original digital images may focus on a desktop or laptop and needs to capture the essence of why you love your Mac to be eligible for the competition. Images must be recognizable and not over-processed or overly digitally manipulated.
We are especially interested in images that showcase the wide range of users: office, personal, professional, creative and any emotion or personal creativity you want to throw-in.
If you choose to include other people in your submission, you are responsible for obtaining the necessary releases from the individuals depicted, and must be able to provide copies of those releases to Mac Users Guide upon request. Entrants must not submit images that involve infringe on the rights of any other photographer or person.
All photographs should accurately reflect the subject matter and the scene as it appeared. Photos that have been digitally altered beyond standard optimization (removal of dust, cropping, reasonable adjustments to exposure, color and contrast, etc.) will be disqualified. Multiple exposures that have been combined to produce a single “High Dynamic Range” image are acceptable. Images that do not meet these requirements may or may not be judged.
Photo captions must accompany all submissions, and should included the subject of the image and the name of the photographer(s). If emailed or posted please include this information with your submission to assist judges in determining eligibility.
All photographs will be credited with the caption “photo by Person’s Name.” Mac Users Guide has final approval of any language that appears on its website with any of the photos and will not promote or endorse third-party products or services.
HOW TO ENTER
Each photo must be submitted electronically, by one (and only one) of the following two methods:
Via Flickr™ — To submit your photos via Flickr™, use your Yahoo!® ID to login to www.flickr.com. If you do not have an account, you can sign-up for free at www.flickr.com. Flickr™ and Yahoo!® are trademarks of Yahoo, Inc. After logging in, upload your images using the mechanism provided. If you are not already a member of Mac Users Guide Show Me Your Mac group on Flickr™, join by clicking “Join this Group?” on the group’s homepage.
Browse to the image you wish to submit for the contest, and use the “Send to Group” function to add your images to Mac Users Guide’s Photo Contest photo pool. Once added to the group, tag each photo with MyMac2010. If you do not upload your photo to Mac Users Guide group on Flickr™, or do not tag your photo with an appropriate tag, it will not be considered for the competition.
If you have trouble using Flickr™, please consult their online help files. Mac Users Guide is not responsible for any issues or problems you encounter while trying to upload a photo on Flickr™.
Via Email Submission Process — If you choose not to use Flickr™ to submit your image, you may email your photo to flickr_contest@MacUsersGuide.com. Send a low-resolution version of the image (72dpi) along with the description of your image and the name of the photographer(s). Photos not emailed in the correct format or with the appropriate information will not be considered eligible for the contest.
Mac Users Guide reserves the right to upload photos submitted through this process to its public group on Flickr™.
ELIGIBILITY AND JUDGING
Entries may originate in any format — including, but not limited to digital files, digital prints, color transparencies, color prints, or black and white prints — so long as they are submitted electronically. Previously published material for which non-exclusive rights were granted may be entered as long as you still maintain the right to grant us a license (see “Your Rights” above). You must be able to disclose when and where the photo appeared previously to Mac Users Guide upon request.
Images will be judged on originality, technical excellence, composition, overall impact, and artistic merit. The judges are a panel of Mac Users Guide administrative members familiar with photography and responsible for selecting images for various printed and online marketing will judge the contest. Mac Users Guide shall determine winner eligibility in its sole and absolute discretion. All decisions made by the judges are final.
Deadline for submitting entries is 11:59 pm Pacific Standard Time on January 31, 2010. Online entries can be uploaded starting 12:01 am Eastern Standard Time on December 31, 2009.
Entrants are asked to submit a short paragraph about the story behind the photo. The Grand Prize Winner, along with up to 10 Honorable Mentions, will be announced on Feb. 15th. Mac Users Guide reserves the right to adjust any deadline(s) as the result of causes beyond its immediate control.
The judging panel will select one Grand Prize Winner along with up to 10 other Honorable Mentions.
The grand-prize winner will receive a $10 iTunes Gift Card and the winning image will receive a permanent page on www.MacUsersGuide.com.
